We'll miss you Darleen

Darleen Anderson (Field) had one child, Amanda Anderson, and she was a product of the 25yr marriage to Terry Anderson.

Darleen loved to collected crystal, sparkly and any kind of rock or stone.  She had a rock garden in her yard and other rock figures or statues displayed all over her yard and inside her home.  She would come home with some of the most beautiful and different kinds of rocks I have ever seen. It would always created a fantastic story on how and where she obtained it.

Walking around aimlessly and in a daze at the ‘50th’ garage sale in one day marathon out with Darleen was not a surprise to anyone who knew her.  Dragging my heals…I would complain and say ‘Darleen come on.. let’s get going’.  Darleen would just say ‘oh come on Sherry, just one more stop and see what they have real quick’.  I once purchased a child’s school desk, like in the classrooms from the 50’s, on one of these outings and was driving a small compact car at the time.  The hassle it was to get the desk home is a memory I will cherish forever.  I am now extremely glad I purchased that desk.  At the time I did not have a child.  I now have a son and this desk will be a keepsake for him.  We needed a SUV truck storage top and priced them at the department stores.  They were costly to purchase new and I mentioned this to Darleen.  We were up one summer and sure enough on the cell phone Darleen called me and said she stopped at a sale and a storage top was for sale.  We drove over and purchase the storage top for a $25 steal.  What a bargin!  Always on the lookout for others is all I can say for Darleen and her sweet personality.

Darleen enjoyed animals. Her favorite dogs were Jack Russell Terriers.  She never did get mad at me one time when I sent Amanda home with two Guinea Pigs.  The sucker I was when they came to visit some 12 yrs back and we stopped in at a pet shop.  I could not help myself and convinced Darleen that I would purchase the pigs for Amanda and she would take care of them.  Amanda did have those guinea pigs for about 5 yrs. Amanda was great with them and Darleen would make sure they were always fed fruits and vegetables along with their normal diet.  Dad made this great wooden cage that the top would detach from the base and have easy cleaning as well as to protect them when you take them into the grass.  The hawks could come and swoop without you even seeing it happen and goodbye piggy.  So the top portion of the cage would cover them and they would be right on the grass to have fun without worries of predators.  We would bring them out and play all the time when we would visit.  Being a mother now I can understand that Darleen was the person who took that responsibility and not just Amanda for the pigs. I now know that she was a wonderful person to allow Amanda to have had them – from her sister Sherry.  It was because her sister Sherry wanted Amanda to have them was the reason Darleen allowed Amanda to have the pigs.  I totally respected Darleen for allowing that.  Darleen collected baby dolls and figurines.  She had an I Love Lucy doll from the TV show and other beautiful baby dolls displayed threw glass cabinets in her dining room.    As you would be at the sink in her house, she had a big picture window looking out to the back yard.  Bird feeders and sun catchers were displayed outside the window.  A huge crown of thorns plant was perched on the sill and she had crystal and sparking rocks along and inside the pot .  Darleen said it was over 30yrs old and I am happy we took a part and rooted a piece for my home.  One time she brought in a plant from outside and it had a egg sack of praying mantises.  One day the egg hatched and there were thousand of these little tiny critters all over the kitchen window and sink area.  For weeks there were little critters all over her kitchen area.  We laughed for days.
