Police in LaGrange County, Indiana announced the arrest of a Florida man for providing false and misleading information regarding his alleged knowledge of the murders of Terry and Darleen Anderson in Mongo, Indiana last October.

Larry Lee Carpenter, age 51, of West Palm Beach, Florida and formerly of Sturgis, Michigan was charged in LaGrange Circuit Court on one count of False Informing.  Carpenter is alleged to have intentionally provided numerous false, misleading and contradictory statements to detectives from the Sheriff’s Department and State Police who are still actively investigating the double homicide case nearly one year after it occurred.

According to Sheriff Greg Dhaene, “Investigators have logged virtually thousands of hours on this difficult and complex case since last October, and we have identified a number of theories regarding the murders and possible suspects.  It is unfortunate that a person like Mr. Carpenter would intentionally attempt to impede our progress”.  Dhaene would not comment further on the theories or the possible suspects due to the on-going nature of the investigation.

LaGrange County Prosecutor Jeffrey Wible echoed Dhaene’s statements, saying that “The murders of Terry and Darleen Anderson still remain a top priority for LaGrange County Law Enforcement Officials.  We are determined to find the person or persons responsible for committing this horrific crime and prosecuting them to the fullest extent possible”.

Carpenter was first interviewed by investigators following his extradition from the State of Florida on July 16, 2006 for Failure to Appear on an original charge of Possession of Cocaine.  The charge stems from a 2004 case in LaGrange County.  Prior to his extradition, Carpenter was incarcerated in the Palm Beach County, Florida Main Detention Center on un-related charges of Possession of Cocaine, Possession of Marijuana and Carrying a concealed weapon.

On September 18, 2006, Carpenter appeared in the LaGrange Circuit Court and was sentenced to serve eight years at the Department of Corrections on the Cocaine charge.  He remains incarcerated at the LaGrange County Jail and is expected to make his initial appearance on the False Informing charge later this week.
